Welcome to Science at The Oaks Secondary School. 

At The Oaks, science encompasses Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Scientific Enquiry.  Students explore, and expand their knowledge, of the scientific phenomena around them. Learners’ problem solving and enquiry skills are developed through a range of practical studies. 

In key stage 3, learners follow a programme of study that is linked to their academic pathway, i.e. moderate to severe or profound and complex learning difficulties. 

In key stage 4, there are accredited programmes of study linked to the pathways;  Learners working at the earliest developmental level access science through their ASDAN Towards Independence modules and an ‘exploring’ science topic;  Learners with severe learning difficulties complete a range of science topics that are linked to the science around them and are accredited via AQA unit awards; Learners with more moderate learning difficulties can access  OCR Entry Level Science accreditation and some of the most able learners may access a GCSE Science course.
