Maths

At ‘The Oaks’, Mathematics is taught through a variety of approaches including whole class teaching, small group, or individual work. Pupils have an opportunity to use practical objects to help them understand their maths skills and to extend this to help develop their mathematical reasoning and problem-solving skills. Pupils also have access to a variety of ICT resources including – Mathletics, Numeracy Warm Up & Workout and Conquer Maths.

Mathematics includes learning about Number: place value, addition and subtraction, multiplication and division, Measurement, Geometry and Statistics. Pupils follow the Mathematics National Curriculum from early years up to GCSE level.

Pupils in (KS3) Year 7 = 4 lessons of maths per week, Year 8 & 9 = 3 lessons and those in KS4, 3 or 4 lessons. The mathematics curriculum overview can vary from one pupil to another, where pupils in the same year may be working at different steps. Pupils working in KS4 follow an externally accredited scheme of work (where appropriate).
