Duke of Edinburgh Award

The Duke of Edinburgh’s (DofE) Award is a registered charity which aims to provide greater opportunities for young people. The Award offers our students the opportunity to work in the community, gain news skills and experience adventure as well as gaining an internationally recognised Award which employers love to see on a CV!

At The Oaks, we are extremely proud of the opportunities we offer students choosing to participate in the DofE Award. We deliver all stages of the Award; Bronze Award (Year 10), Silver Award (Year 11) and Gold Award (6th Form). We have a fantastic team of staff who are enthusiastic, knowledgeable and have the skills and qualifications to lead and support the students through each stage of the Award.

There are four sections of the award to complete for the Bronze and Silver  Award and five for the Gold Award. They involve volunteering in the local community, developing physical fitness, developing new skills, planning, training for and completing an expedition. Additionally, for the gold award pupils will be required to work within a team on a residential activity.

Through the DofE programme young people have fun, make friends, improve their self-esteem and build confidence. They gain essential skills and attributes for work and life such as; resilience, problem-solving, team-working, communication, drive, as well as enhancing their CVs and college or job applications.

Any young person can do their DofE regardless of ability, gender, background or location. Achieving an Award isn’t a competition or about being first, it’s all about setting personal challenges and pushing personal boundaries.
