10s- separating colours

Following on from our successful work in separating mixtures within Science, we wanted to explore chromatography further. We used this method to separate the colours used to make up various felt tip  shades. We first used our understanding of colour mixing from art lessons and the colour wheel to make predictions and then set up our experiments to test these out. We were surprised to see just how many colours could be seen in some of the test. We were also very surprised to see just how far some of the colour spots travelled up the chromatography paper. We learned so much and had lots of fun at the same time! We followed this activity by using water colour paints to try and mix our own shades.
