Latest News From the School Blog
This week, as part of their food technology accreditation, 11s worked in teams to create the most amazing vegetable curry. Staff stood back and let them problem solve to find their own ingredients, equipment and follow the recipe as closely as possible… Each team did amazingly and in actual fact we wouldn’t pick a winner. The skills they developed, the methods they used and the final meal delivered was of such a high quality the staff were blown away! Keep up the determination and effort year 11s!
Who says Maths is boring? Not us here at The Oaks! This week 11s have been continuing their work on place value… we’ve worked hard to partition numbers into their 100s, 10s and 1s. Today we tested this knowledge with a competitive board game style challenge. Who doesn’t love a board game? Fun was had, learning continued and knowledge was reinforced! What is not to love?
Our new GCSE art group have been learning about the life and work of French artist Paul Cezanne for their first art project. They produced their own version of still life artwork during a recent lesson where they were asked to draw or paint a bowl of fruit.
We are becoming aware of emails not being received from school where you have previously received them fine. We are looking into this and hope to resolve the issue early next week. Apologies for this.
In 8T, we have started the new year learning about food and digestion in Science. Students did amazing matching flashcards to the correct organs in our digestive systems and even made their own fabric model of our digestive system!
In RRS this week, students in 8T practised making their own cup of tea and made their own placemats ready for the upcoming Macmillan coffee morning in school. Students enjoyed their cup of tea with a biscuit whilst watching Newsround together as as group.

CBBC and Blue Peter have hooked up with Quentin Blake as the designer of the new Blue Peter Reading Badge. (Open to all pupils up to the age of 15 years!)
You can apply for this badge by visiting the attached link and downloading the application form. Applying for the badge is easy!
All you have to do is:
1.Tell them about a book you have read and what you think about it. Maybe you liked the characters, or perhaps you enjoyed going on exciting adventures in faraway places.
2.Upload your illustration of a character or a scene from the story. This could be a drawing, painting or even digital artwork.
3.Let them know what other books and authors you have enjoyed reading and why. We can’t wait to see who applies and receives their very own badge.
And of course we would also love to see your entries too, so dont forget to bring in your illustrations for your teachers and class mates to see also!
Happy Reading!!
