Rights respecting schools logo competition

In family groups, students have designed logos for a competition. The winner will have their logo on every piece of work we carry out on Rights Respecting Schools. Here are some of the logos. The winner will be announced next week.

Unfortunately we have had to disqualify this first entry as staff are not allowed to enter (Sorry Mr Lock!)

Peer support

We have held assemblies this week for the whole school to find this year’s Peer Support Students. Peer Supporters work alongside staff during lunch and break times to ensure other students always have someone to talk to. They notify staff of any bullying issues they might see at break times and make sure no one feels alone. We have a fantastic group of student offering their support this year from years 7 to 14.

Celebrating the Paralympics

Today, 6th Form took part in activities to learn about and celebrate the Rio Paralympics 2016. Weather permitting, we will hold our own Paralympic Games tomorrow morning.

Rights Respecting Schools

This morning we all took part in a RRS Fair. Each family group completed work on one of the articles from the Convention of Rights fir Children. They all presented work in the school gym.

Spennymoor Schools Sharing Good Practice Conference

Today we took part in sharing some of the fantastic work we do at The Oaks with other schools in the local area.

British Empire Day

Today we had some special visitors to school. Our Chair of Governors, Clive Hubery, was presented with his British Empire Medal by Kingsley Smith, the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of the area. Clive’s family and friends helped us celebrate and enjoyed an afternoon tea prepared and served in 6th Form.

Oxfam Dressed by The Kids Day

Today some of our staff were dressed by their children in aid of Oxfam. We can’t see any difference in their state of dress but agree they all look fabulous.

Learning about environmental issues!

This morning students in sixth form learnt about environmental issues. A teacher from OASES talked to students about electricity, how it’s made and what we can do to save electricity! Our top tip is to make sure you switch lights off when you leave the room!
