Remembrance Sunday

In Family groups this week we have been remembering soldiers who lost their lives in war and learning about why we wear poppies. We are all working together to create a mobile of poppies designed by pupils which we will hang in the school.

6th form food technology

Today some of our 6th form students made pumpkin loaf using pumpkins grown in our garden. We didn’t waste anything and even roasted the seeds to crumble on the top of our loaf. We then had fun carving spooky faces on our pumpkins.

Experimenting with bread

Today some of 6th Form made bread. They made 2 different bread rolls, one with yeast and one without. We were amazed with the difference and will complete some investigations on the bread tomorrow.

6th form independent travel

6th form have been learning about travelling independently this term. We have had a visit from Kevin, the general manager for Arriva. He told us all about what services are available to students and answered our questions. We all got a goodie bag and the promise of a trip on an Arriva bus next time he visits.

Making crumble

Today, some of our sixth form students made crumble using blackberries and pears from Mrs Irvine’s garden. Paige, Natalie and Thomas used their peeling and cutting skills to safely prepare the fruit and even made their own crumble topping by weighing ingredients carefully. The crumble went down well with the rest of the class.

Macmillan coffee afternoon

This afternoon sixth form held a coffee afternoon for parents to raise money for Macmillan. The students worked very hard to set up the sixth form and tidy up afterwards.

We are a Rights Respecting School

On Monday we had a very special assessment visit from the UNICEF Rights Respecting Schools assessors. Students did a fantastic job of showing them around the school and explaining everything we do to ensure everyone receives their rights. We are now happy to say we received our Level 1 as a Rights Respecting School.

Family group charters

We are having a visit on Monday for our Rights respecting schools level 1 assessment. To prepare, we are having an update of our class charters and introducing our new year 7 pupils to the process of making a charter.
