Today some of 8G started making hats out of recycled fleece. The fleece began its life as plastic bottles before it was recycled. We started sewing our hats using the sewing machine and used an industrial embroidery machine to begin to decorate them. We think they look very professional.
This week we had a special assembly by Mark Solan. He told us about his charity which helps families in the local area who are affected by cancer. Today in family groups we have designed hoodies to be entered into a competition which will be judged by the trust. We are also planning some fundraising for the charity.
As part of our focus on raising awareness of mental health issues in young people, Mr Tweddle carried out KS3 and KS4 assemblies. The assemblies were designed to show our pupils where they can go and how to reach out to others if they are having difficulties. We are covering the topic in more depth on Thursday in Family Groups.
Today, some of our Sixth Form have been using the skills they have learned over the last few weeks to decorate cup cakes with designs of their choice. Some themes included Valentine’s Day and Max Steele. The cakes looked great and were delicious.

In Family groups this week we have been remembering soldiers who lost their lives in war and learning about why we wear poppies. We are all working together to create a mobile of poppies designed by pupils which we will hang in the school.
