Sixth Form visit to Dilston College

Some of the year 12s and year 13s went to visit Dilston College in Corbridge today. They had a look around the building and spoke to staff and young people there. We even bumped into one of our past students.

After lunch, the group took part in some forest school activities before having to get back to school.

Enterprise Cafe

The Sixth Form have made a special Valentine style cake for their Enterprise Cafe this week.

Yesterday the catering group used a special cake tin to make a chocolate cake which they filled this morning with strawberry flavoured buttercream icing.

Mrs Crawford was very impressed when she saw it whilst showing a visitor around the building.

Group Four STEM activities

This morning, group four accessed the hydrotherapy pool and completed some activities linked to STEM week.

We looked at forces – pushing and pulling as well as floating and sinking. We also looked at how to propel ourselves around the pool.

Goodbye Smeagol…

The Sixth Form arrived to some sad news this morning. Our Guinea Pig, Smeagol passed away over the weekend.

He had a good year with us in the Sixth Form and many years before that with Mrs Irvine and Miss Brown.

Some of the Sixth Form came out this afternoon to say goodbye to Smeagol as we buried him in the garden with our dwarf hamster Bubble, who we lost at the end of last year.

We are proud of how our students have handled the loss of some of our animals during the past year. They show compassion and understanding. This demonstrates to us how important these animals are to Sixth Form life and the personal development of our students.

Group Three Reward Trip to South Shields.

Some of the sixth form have been on their reward trip today. It looked like it would be a bit of a washout first thing this morning but by the time we got there, it had stopped raining and the sun came out.

They enjoyed some time on the beach, a walk along the pier, a fish and chip lunch and some time in the park before getting an ice cream or cold drink then getting back on the bus.

There were some sleepy young people on the way back home…

Inter-schools climbing competition

Jake, Dylan and Tony have had the opportunity to enter a climbing competition at Climb Newcastle today. They had 90 minutes to work on 30 problems at varying difficulty and scored points towards a grand total. They had 3 attempts on each problem scoring either 10, 7 or 4 points.

They all tried really hard and all came out with a good score at the end.

Italian Restaurant

Last night, the Sixth Form hosted an Italian Restaurant. Students served diners a three course meal which included a caprese salad, lasagne and garlic bread and lemon cheesecake.

The whole evening was planned and executed by students as part of their enterprise curriculum. They were able to practice the skills they have been learning throughout the year.

Everyone really seemed to enjoy the evening and all diners were very complimentary about the menu.

After lunch, the group had a look in the arcades and fair ground. Daniel also had the chance to look around the Star Trek Exhibition which he enjoyed. We finished off our day out with fun on the beach.

Well done to Dylan and Tony who have achieved their level three award and Alesha who has achieved her level two award and to Jake who achieved his level two a couple of weeks ago. The whole group have worked really hard this term and improved a number of skills.

An afternoon walking in the gorge

It was a long walk through the gorge this afternoon. We had to find our way through the river to different points and climb up waterfalls and slippy, steep banks.

It was really cold in the water but some of us went in quite deep for some of it and some of us got a bit wet because we took some little falls into the water.

We all had a good time and took on the challenges that we faced really well.
