Rainbow Flag Award

The Oaks is proud to be an inclusive school community. To show our commitment to diversity, we are currently working towards the Rainbow Flag award. This is a national framework to help schools take a positive approach to LGBT+ inclusion. The school has to demonstrate how the curriculum, policies, staff, students and governors all work together on improving LGBT+ inclusion and awareness.

So far this year, Mrs Pitchford and Mrs Farrow have attended training with the Rainbow Flag award delivery partners. In addition, The Rainbow Room, a student group for LGBT+ students and allies, has designed a new section for the school website. They have also developed an RRS lesson on LGBT+ to make it more accessible and relevant for students.

Look out for updates about our progress during the coming months. You can also head to the Rainbow Flag Award website for more information.

World Book Day 2024

For the last 2 weeks, students have used their RRS lessons to complete reading based activities. This is linked to Article 28 of the UN Convention of the Rights of the Child and World Book Day.
To promote our love of reading, staff shared their favourite books, students designed new front covers, recreated covers as photographs, made book-themed quizzes and much more.
All classes were asked to decorate their doors as a book of their choice and the results were incredible! Students and staff also came to school dressed as their favourite book characters on Thursday 7th March.
Thank you to everyone who made it such a special event.
